September 11th Remembrances in Yuma

Yuma's Fire Department today is remembering September 11th, 2001, specifically the first responders who gave their lives in the collapse of the towers of the World Trade Center, attempting to rescue those injured and trapped in the terrorist attack.  This morning at Fire Station 2 on Avenue A, the Fire Department hosted a brief ceremony and special tribute.  Yuma Fire Department spokesman Mike Erfert says those first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice are also memorialized on the fire station's front lawn...............

Tonight at 6:30 a Memorial Service will be held at Yuma Fire Station 1 on 3rd Avenue in north Yuma.  A memorial built there in 2013 includes a 160 pound I beam from one of the twin towers.  Erfert says the memorial was built by local construction workers and Yuma Fire Department personnel to honor those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash site of one of the hijacked planes in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  The public is invited to attend.
