AWC Student Presents to the American Chemical Society

Arizona Western College has been a involved in solar power research since the school's Agriculture and Science Building was completed with a 1-kilowatt solar array on the roof several years ago. Even before AWC's began construction this summer on a 5-mega-watt solar power array, chemistry professor Scott Donnelly has been teaching about solar power in his classes. One of Donnelly's students, Joshua Tumao, came by the KAWC studios this spring to talk with Michelle Faust about a year-long study that he has been working on that he was invited to present at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society. AWC Women’s Basketball Coach Patrick Cunningham Voted Coach of the Year

One of the biggest stories on the Arizona Western college campus this winter has been the amazing success of the school's women's basketball team. The Lady Matador's 30-win and 2-loss season was one of the best in school history, and it won a "Coach of the Year" award from the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Competition

Arizona Western College joined with General Motors and other local businesses to help a local team of high school students prepare and compete in the F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Competition. A week from today the team, called the Gila Monsters , will go to Phoenix for their regional competition. When they get there, they’ll compete against other teams with a robot built in just six weeks. But first, they have to take it out of a giant plastic bag. KAWC’s Lou Gum tells us why. Acclaimed Author Rick Moody Visits Yuma

Rick Moody has written short stories, novels and a memoir. His book The Ice Storm was made into a major motion picture in 1999. His newest book, "The Four fingers of Death" is a futuristic science fiction book that is mostly set in the desert southwest.
