Are you interested in learning about new resources and practices for teaching Black history in the classroom? Join Shelly Gordon and Lisa Olson, co-founders of The 1619 Project Advocates of Arizona, English Language Arts teacher Christina Sneed and one of her students for a virtual conversation about teaching Black history and drawing from The 1619 Project. The panel will discuss the challenges and successes of bringing this important work to the classroom and how it is engaging students in new and unexpected ways. Educators, students, administrators, and parents are invited to attend this discussion on Saturday, June 19 from 2-3:30 p.m. Learn about the importance of teaching the Black American perspective of U.S. history, how to be culturally responsive to students of color, and why it’s essential that educators be properly trained to bring this challenging history to their students, with the sensitivity and respect that is required. Attendees will also learn about professional training programs and opportunities for educators.
