The Yuma Fire Department and the City of Yuma are joining in on a nationwide effort to honor fallen firefighters.

On Saturday, October 5th, and Sunday, October 6th, four of YFD's stations (station 1, 2, 3 and 5) as well as Yuma's City Hall will be lit red to "Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters." It's all part of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, a 38-year-old national observance where firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty are honored.

Since 2017, important landmarks around the country have been lit up red during this time of remembrance.

On Sunday, special services will be held at the National Fallen Firefighter's Memorial found at the grounds of the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
