Victor is originally from West Sacramento, California and has lived in Arizona for more than five years. He began his print journalism career in 2004 following his graduation from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Victor has been a reporter for the following daily newspapers: The Monterey County Herald, The Salinas Californian and the Reno Gazette-Journal, where he covered stories including agriculture, education and Latino community news. Victor has also served as a local editor for Patch, a national news organization with hyperlocal websites, in Carmichael, California in the Sacramento area. He also served as the editor for The New Vision, the newspaper for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson, which includes Yuma and La Paz counties. Victor lives in Somerton. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and following most sports.

Maj. Gen. Michael McGuire, Adjutant General for Arizona and the Director of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs, said an indoors COVID-19 vaccination site that opened in Yuma this week will serve as a model around the state as sites transition from outdoors to indoors for the warm summer months.

A state-run “super pod” COVID-19 vaccination site opened Monday at the Yuma Civic Center.

Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls rescinded an amendment to the city’s Emergency Proclamation regarding the wearing of face coverings in public spaces. This action results from Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey’s Executive Order issued Thursday.

Registration at Arizona’s state-operated COVID-19 vaccination sites including in Yuma County will be open to all Arizonans 16 and older beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Gov. Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services announced.

With reports of migrant apprehensions on the U.S.-Mexico border increasing, we wanted to ask our local Yuma Sector Border Patrol Chief who are the migrants being apprehended here in the San Luis and Yuma areas. KAWC’s Victor Calderón spoke with Chief Patrol Agent Chris Clem in his first local media interview since he took office in late December to put into perspective what an increase in apprehensions looks like here.

PHOENIX -- Gov. Doug Ducey said Monday he will not fund "empty seats'' in classrooms or allow schools to remain in "a perpetual state of closure.''
"Students have been kept out of classrooms for long enough,'' the governor said in his seventh State of the State speech. "They've lost out on childhood experiences that can't be duplicated on a computer screen.''

The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines are set to arrive in Yuma County this week.

An emergency medicine physician who said he was fired from Yuma Regional Medical Center over a social media post about a lack of Intensive Care Unit beds in Arizona during the COVID-19 pandemic and would not return to his job at the hospital has gone back.

San Luis Mayor Gerardo Sanchez announced Saturday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
