Legislators from District 4 held a town hall in San Luis on Tuesday night.

Residents asked state Senator Lisa Otondo and Representatives Charlene Fernandez and Dr. Gerae Peten about immigration, the Port of Entry and more funding for San Luis schools, including the need for a second high school due to overcrowding.

District 4 includes northwest Yuma, Somerton, Gadsden and San Luis. Peten lives in the northern end of the district west of Phoenix and said funding education is one of her priorities as a former educator.

“Once again, we finished a session and education is still not fully funded," she said. "Although there has been some slight increases, it’s not significant.”

The event was hosted by the Yuma County Democratic Party, whose officials said they plan to hold more events in San Luis and Somerton.
