Yuma County Health Reports 96 New COVID-19 Cases; Highest Single Day Spike

The Yuma County Public Health District reports 96 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the countywide total to 604 Friday. It marks the highest number of new cases reported in a single day in the County.

 

 

The health district also reports three additional deaths related to the virus bringing the total number of deaths in Yuma County to 10. 

 

One of them was a child under the age of 18-years-old with serious underlying health conditions, according to the county. It is the first pediatric death in the state of Arizona 

As health officials continue to conduct contact investigations, 6,101 residents in Yuma County have been tested for the virus.  

So far 58 inmates at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Yuma have tested positive for the virus according to the Department of Corrections

As of 8 a.m., Thursday 45 residents remain hospitalized throughout the county. The group seeing the highest number of cases are those between the age of 20 and 44-years-old, according to the Yuma County Health District. They make up 43-percent of the cases reported so far. 

 

Only 17-percent of the cases are people aged 65-years or older and less than seven percent of the cases are those under 20-years-old. 

 

Statewide in Arizona, there are now 15,608 confirmed cases of the virus resulting in 775 deaths.
