Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls met with President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington on Tuesday.
On his mayoral Facebook page, Nicholls posted two photographs with Trump and wrote “I had the honor of representing Yuma while meeting with President of the United States Donald Trump at the White House on April 30. We talked about the migrant releases in the Yuma border region, immigration and trade impacts.”
Last week, Nicholls attended a roundtable meeting in Somerton with U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva as well as area elected officials, police chiefs and representatives of non-governmental organizations who are serving migrants who have been released into the Yuma community.
On April 16, Nicholls declared a city state of emergency due to the number of migrant asylum seekers released that he has said have strained resources.
