Yuma County Public Health District

 

As the total number of COVID-19 cases surpass 12,000 in Yuma County, daily reports over the last couple of weeks have shown a downward trajectory in the number of cases reported. The health director for Yuma County says it could be a result of effective safety measures.

While the deadline for filling out the U.S. Census has been pushed to the end of September, the Census return rate for Yuma County is currently under 50-percent.

The plan for a return to campus for employees and students of Arizona Western College has come together after a long uncertain summer.

There are more than 11,000 high-school students in the region and Yuma Union High School District and the communities it serves are working on options for students to go back to school.

As Arizona and the nation continue to contend with the coronavirus pandemic, candidates for public office in the state are dealing with new challenges on the campaign trail. 

Anne Marie Ward, a Republican candidate for Congress is one of them. Since beginning her run in 2019, Ward says health care has topped the concerns of potential voters.  

"Health Care is right at the top of people's minds," she says.
