PHOENIX -- Gov. Doug Ducey is blaming the crisis on the border on federal laws he says are providing incentives for people to seek asylum.

Despite her recent election loss to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema, Republican Martha McSally is headed to Washington, D.C. to join her former opponent in the United States Senate.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has appointed McSally to fill the seat of the late John McCain, who died in August after a battle with brain cancer.

David Garcia, the Democratic candidate for Arizona governor, told voters in Yuma on Friday that he is the best candidate to lead the state forward. Garcia told KAWC he believes his message is getting out across the state as he looks to defeat incumbent Republican Gov. Doug Ducey.

Striking Yuma area teachers spent much of the day lining the intersection of 4th Avenue and 16th Street, joining teachers across the state in a walkout that closed down most of the state's public schools.  Teachers, parents, supporters and kids all wearing Red For Ed t-shirts filled the sidewalks of the intersection, receiving horn honking support from many of the cars going by.
