Groundbreaking took place this week for the more than thirteen million dollar Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.  The project includes six lighted softball fields, batting cages, concessions and restrooms, picnic and play areas, landscaping and walking paths.  DPE Construction of Yuma is building the complex.

Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls says he believes when its finished, the Complex will become an economic driver for the city.  He says it will bring large regional and even national tournaments to Yuma....................

City Councilman Gary Wright had been an outspoken critic of the project.  Despite his opposition, he was shoveling dirt during the groundbreaking.  Councilman Wright says his opposition was not based on cost, it was based completely on how it was approved..........................................
