Yuma County Announces First COVID-19-Related Death

Yuma County health officials confirmed the first death related to COVID-19 Sunday evening.  

The patient was a female in her 80's with underlying health conditions.

In a released statement, Diana Gomez,  the county Public Health Services District Director, said "Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the patient. We’ve all seen reports of outbreak-related deaths in other states and countries, but this Yuma County death reminds us how important it is to continue working to protect each other during this outbreak.”

The death is one of the 20 cases reported in the county. Statewide, there are 115 deaths and more than 3,500 cases of the virus.

Neighboring La Paz County announced its first COVID-19 related death this past week.
