San Luis’ Acting Chief of Police Richard Jessup has earned the job on a permanent basis.

San Luis Mayor Gerardo Sanchez and the city council appointed Jessup permanent Chief of Police on Wednesday.

Chief Jessup had served as acting chief since June of 2017. He began his law enforcement career in California in 1982.

Jessup transferred to the Yuma Police Department in 1983. He has also served with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, as a Highway Patrol Officer and a detective with the San Luis Police Department.

Jessup is also an instructor at the Arizona Western College Law Enforcement Training Academy, where he lectures on cultural diversity.

Earlier this month, Joseph Turitto was named permanent Police Chief in Somerton.
