Officials with the Yuma Sector of the Border Patrol say they too are practicing social distancing and maintaining health safety measures to slow the spread of COVID-19.
While Yuma County residents are asked to stay at home and practice social distancing and other measures when in public, agents with the Border Patrol are doing their part to flatten the curve.
Agent Jose Garibay told KAWC the warmer temperatures we’ve seen have meant only a few migrants are being held at their Yuma facility. With a capacity for 500 migrants, they only had 10 on Wednesday.
“So there’s plenty of social distancing that can be had between the individuals that are in our custody and our agents who are definitely taking precautions as far as when they’re out in the field, talking to these individuals, apprehending them," Garibay said. "They are wearing the proper protective measurements, such as the N95 masks and gloves.”
Garibay said agents will continue to monitor local health guidelines and act accordingly.
