Arizona’s senior Senator on Capitol Hill says, while the interim agreement with Iran will likely slow the country’s nuclear ambitions, he is concerned it does not go far enough.
A statement from John McCain’s office says the agreement signed Sunday in Geneva between the U.S., allies, and Iran does not go far enough to resolve the International Atomic Energy Agency’s concerns.
The agreement would lighten international sanctions against the Persian nation in exchange for increased international scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear program that the country insists is for energy-producing purposes only.
The Senator does not believe the agreement will keep Iran from weaponizing uranium in pursuit of nuclear weapons.
McCain would like to see Iran stop building its Arak nuclear facility, which the agreement would not do.
