Arizona Western Football Alum Helps Chiefs Win Super Bowl

A former student-athlete at Arizona Western College helped the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Damien Williams was a running back for the Matadors before transferring to Oklahoma in 2012.

Williams scored two touchdowns Sunday to lead the Chiefs past the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. On social media, many analysts said Williams deserved to be named the game's Most Valuable Player, which went instead to quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Former Arizona Western Football Coach Tom Minnick posted several congratulatory tweets for Williams on Twitter Sunday, including one with a photo of the two with the caption “Damien Williams- Kansas City Chiefs. Congratulations.  Love ya Man !!!”

In his sophomore season at AWC, Williams led the Matadors to the NJCAA Football Championship Game.

On Monday, Williams appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

There are at least two other Arizona connections on the Chiefs. Defensive end Terrell Suggs played at Arizona State and safety Tyrann Mathieu began his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
