Dozens took to the sidewalks Saturday evening, at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 24th Street in Yuma, to peacefully protest the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and in favor of #BlackLivesMatter.

Floyd, 46, died May 25 after a video was taken of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on Floyd's neck for almost nine minutes while Floyd repeatedly said he couldn't breathe.

The former officer, Derek Chauvin, 44, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder Friday four days after the incident.

So far police have made nearly 1,400 arrests in at least 17 cities, including Phoenix and Tucson, since the protests started nationwide, according to the Associated Press.

In Yuma, protesters held signs reading "#BlackLivesMatter" and "#NoJusticeNoPeace". Organizers have said they will gather again at the same location on Sunday and Monday.
