The Secretary of Homeland Security is scheduled to be in Yuma on Thursday. He’ll be joined by U.S. Senator Martha McSally.

Secretary Kevin McAleenan will meet with Yuma Border Patrol officials Thursday morning when he will tour the temporary tent facility for migrants in custody.

McAleenan will then meet with reporters along the border. Work has been under way to replace older fencing with new bollard-style fencing.

Senator McSally will meet with McAleenan, receive a briefing from the Arizona National Guard and also tour the facility.

Their visit comes a month after reports of some migrant youths in Yuma alleging mistreatment and even sexual abuse by some agents. Customs and Border Protection officials have said those allegations are under investigation.

The Yuma Border Patrol chief told KAWC agents treat those in their custody with respect and dignity.
