Kofa High School’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps proved once again why they are among the best in the area after notching multiple wins at two events over the past few weeks.

First, on Friday, Nov. 9, Kofa’s Raider Mixed Team and four-person rifle team headed to Rio Rico High School to compete in the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s Raider Challenge as well as a 1x60 Standing Rifle competition.

The rifle team made up of Nickolas Wissler, Keilem Vazquez, Corian Castillo, and Brayden Waldron took third place overall. Wissler received top honors for being the event’s high shooter. The Raider Team took first place in the One Rope stretcher event as well.

The following weekend, Kofa’s two rifle teams traveled to Fontana, California for the Ray Pickett Invitational to compete in a 3x20 Air Rifle competition.

Kofa’s first team comprised of Wissler, Vazquez, Daphne Rivera, and Casey Clark took fourth overall out of 18 teams.

For individual awards, Vazquez placed first in kneeling position; Wissler finished fourth, and Rivera fifth in the event.

In the prone position, Wissler received second and Galindo was fourth.

Overall, Vazquez and Wissler placed seventh and ninth, respectively, out of 72 shooters.
