After caping off last season as a nationally ranked team, Kofa High School’s Marine Corps JROTC Rifle team once again proved why they are among the best in the country.

Their top team finished third out of a total of 15 schools at the Carver Mountain Rifle Competition on the campus of Cesar Chavez High School in Laveen, Arizona. The team consisted of Cadets Nickolas Wissler, Casey Clark, Oscar Galindo, and Daphne Rivera.

Individually speaking, Kofa also had a number of top scorers at the September 28th event. Cadet Keilem Vazquez finished first overall out of 60 shooters. In the kneeling category, Wissler received first place, while Vazquez placed second, and Rivera came in third. In the prone category, Galindo placed third.

“We are very proud of these teams and bringing home the first Rifle trophies for our program,” Kofa MCJROTC Instructor Maj. Todd Birney said.
