A pair of Kofa High School girls soccer players have been spotlighted as potential NCAA prospects, according to KHS head coach Santos Rangel Jr.
Juniors Amanda Kochis and Hanna Urtado attended the EXOS 50 select camp in August, where more than 250 girls who are labeled Division 1 or Division 2 prospects from around the southwestern United States were invited to compete as part of a one-day event in Phoenix. Evaluations of each athlete were conducted by current NCAA coaches with feedback provided to each individual in the form of positives and areas of growth.
“Amanda is a strong-willed student athlete a truly delight in the classroom and on the field,” Rangel Jr. said. “She is fearless on the field and a great team player. She is one of the most coachable players on the team and has talent, but her integrity and determination make her a top-class student athlete.”
Rangel Jr. raved about Urtado, who has 18 goals and three assists in two seasons, as well.
“Hanna is a quiet and humble person, but the way she plays makes her shine,” he said. “She is a lethal finisher, tough tackler, and workhorse. In the classroom, she’s calm and quietly goes about her business.”
According to the EXOS evaluations, Urtado is considered a strong NCAA Division 1 candidate, while Kochis is considered a strong Division 2 candidate.
As a sophomore striker, Urtado scored 14 goals and tallied 30 total points for Kofa. Kochis, who lined up as a defender, played more than 870 minutes third on the team behind Urtado (893 minutes) and senior Airlin Chavarin, who will play at Arizona Western College this season.
