Jesse Vargas of Aztec High School in Yuma makes the Y in the #YOUMA sign unveiled Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Colorado River State Historic Park. Aztec students made the sign that officials say promotes the "you" in Yuma.

You can now show off your Yuma pride at a new art installation at the Colorado River State Historic Park.

The #YOUMA sign was unveiled Wednesday morning. That’s Y-O-U-M-A because officials with the park’s Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area say they want to highlight that “you”, meaning both locals and tourists, make Yuma the great city it is.

The sign consists of the letters U M and A and you’re invited to make the Y sign with your hands.

Jesse Vargas is one of the students from Aztec High School in Yuma who built the sign as a welding project.

“It’s going to be big because people from out of town will visit it and take pictures and those will go all over the world," Vargas said. "People will see the project I helped make.”

Aztec is a charter school for high risk juvenile offenders. The #YOUMA sign is open to the public following the unveiling Wednesday.
