Starting today, New York City and Long Island are enforcing rules about when you can fill up your tank. New Jersey, where post-Sandy problems also remain daunting, has been doing that for more than a week. Gov. Chris Christie says he'll re-evaluate the need for doing that over this weekend.

In his acceptance speech, President Obama said he would reach out to his Republican rival. A young mother in Kenya seems to have caught the spirit of reconciliation. On Wednesday, Millicent Owuor gave birth to twin boys, and named them Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

Historical, Fictional Icons Take To The Big Screen
Two of the year's most highly anticipated movies arrive this week. Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, and Skyfall, the third film starring Daniel Craig as James Bond 007, directed by American Beauty Oscar-winner Sam Mendes. Film critic David Edelstein has this review of both.

Bioengineering Beer Foam
Reporting in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Tomás G. Villa and colleagues devised a recipe for improving beer foam. They identified a gene in brewer's yeast that prolongs beer foam lifespan by making a protein that protects the bubbles. They say they've brewed beers with heads that stay frothy for several hours.

Climate Change Takes Flight in New Novel
Writer Barbara Kingsolver is one of a handful of novelists with a science background, and she puts it to use in her new novel Flight Behavior. Kingsolver discusses the book and why she chose to look at the the issue of climate change in a fictional work set in rural Tennessee.
