Governor Candidate Garcia Meets With Voters in Yuma

David Garcia, the Democratic candidate for Arizona governor, meets with supporters at the Littlewood Arts Co-op in Yuma on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018.

David Garcia, the Democratic candidate for Arizona governor, told voters in Yuma on Friday that he is the best candidate to lead the state forward. Garcia told KAWC he believes his message is getting out across the state as he looks to defeat incumbent Republican Gov. Doug Ducey.

Garcia visited the Littlewood Arts Co-op in Yuma following a two-day listening tour with voters.

"We do (feel our message is getting out) and this is going to be a bottom up movement," Garcia told KAWC. "It's not just about someone at the top. It's about teachers knocking on doors because they want to see change in public education, young people knocking because they want their schools to be safer."

"People all over the state are doing new things, getting involved, voting for the first time," he said. "New energy doesn't vote for the same old politics and all of that energy is exciting and is going to bode well for change in November."

Election Day is Nov. 6.

On the tour, Garcia joined Dr. David Brill, who is running for Congress in Arizona's Fourth District. The tour started Thursday in Florence with 11 stops, including Prescott, Lake Havasu City and Parker.

At the Yuma stop, Garcia and Brill were joined by Arizona State Rep. Charlene Fernandez and State Sen. Lisa Otondo, who are running for re-election; Jorge Lozano, who is running for Yuma County Superior Court Judge; Bill Pierce, who is running for state mine inspector; the Our Revolution Yuma group and Talia Baca of the Save Our Schools AZ politicial action committee that asks residents to vote no on Prop 305, which is also known as the Expansion of Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Referendum.
