Mexican Consulate Donates Thousands to Health Care Program Geared toward Latinos

KAWC Colorado River Public Media

The health of the Latino population is a priority for the Mexican Consulate in Yuma, who recently contributed thousands of dollars to support a mobile clinic outreach program.  Maya Springhawk Robnett of the Arizona Science Desk reports…

The Mexican Consulate in Yuma donated more than thirty-five-thousand-dollars to Campesinos sin Fronteras, a non-profit serving migrant farmworkers and the region’s low-income Hispanic population.

The money was donated to benefit the Ventanillas de Salud—or “health window”—program to conduct health screenings in the community.  Campesinos sin Fronteras Executive Director Emma Torres stressed the importance of taking healthcare to the people.

“I think the work of the Ventanillas is incredibly important,” Torres explained, “because it reaches out to those individuals who otherwise would go without any health care.  Because they don’t have health insurance or they don’t go to a doctor.”

The Mexican Consulate has donated to Campesinos for 8 years and helps fund other programs across the United States that benefit Mexican nationals.
