Ex San Luis High Guard Charged With Having Sex With a Student Pleads Guilty

UPDATE 1/22/20: A San Luis woman who worked as a security guard at the city’s public high school and was accused in late August of having a sexual relationship with a student has pleaded guilty to the charges.

KYMA reports that court documents show that Lizbeth Gomez Coronel admitted to San Luis Police that she had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old.

The relationship started in November 2017 on social media and continued for more than a year becoming sexual, according to court documents.

Gomez Coronel’s employment at San Luis High School was terminated. Yuma Union High School District officials have declined to comment further on the case.

UPDATE 9/9/19: A San Luis woman who worked as a security guard at the city’s public high school and was accused of having sex with a student pleaded not guilty in her arraignment Monday.

KYMA reports an attorney from the public defender's office was appointed to represent Lizbeth Gomez Coronel. She has been charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

Yuma Union High School District officials confirmed to KAWC that Gomez Coronel’s employment at San Luis High School has been terminated and declined further comment on the matter.

Gomez Coronel is expected to be back in court for a case management conference on Oct. 10.

UPDATE 8/28/19: A woman who worked as a security guard at San Luis High School and has been charged with sexual conduct with a minor appeared in court Tuesday.

The Yuma Sun reports Lizbeth Gomez-Coronel appeared in South County Justice Court to be arraigned on three charges.

Justice of the Peace Juan Guerrero informed Gomez-Coronel that the Yuma County Attorney’s Office had filed a criminal complaint. She has been charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

Gomez-Coronel’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 12 for a preliminary hearing.

San Luis police have released the name of a woman who worked as a security guard at San Luis High School and was arrested last week for alleged sex crimes with a minor.

Lt. Marco Santana told KAWC that Lizbeth Gomez-Coronel was arrested Thursday by San Luis Police officers.

Gomez-Coronel faces multiple charges, including sexual conduct with a minor, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor.

The Yuma Sun reports the minor is a 15-year-old male student. Gomez-Coronel is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday.

She has worked at San Luis High since at least 2018.

In a released statement, Yuma Union High School District officials said “the District has taken immediate action to terminate the individual's employment with the District and that individual is no longer employed. The health and safety of all Yuma Union High School District students is a primary and most important value of all board members and staff at the District. We will continue to do our utmost to provide a safe learning environment for all students."
