The Yuma Territorial Prison and the Colorado River State Park will reopen to the public the week of June 15 after being shut down for more than two months, according to the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area (YCNHA).

The Yuma Territorial Prison will open Monday, June 15. The Colorado River State Historic Park will reopen Tuesday, June 16.

Several proactive measures have been taken to combat the potential spread of COVID-19. The parks are now equipped with several hand sanitizing stations and all employees are required to wear a mask.

Although it is not required to wear a face-covering in the state, the staff asks that anyone visiting does so, to limit "community spread."

"The YCNHA is requesting this emphatically while within our parks when you cannot effectively observe social distancing guidelines. It would be sad for one of our team members to get sick because an asymptomatic individual inadvertently infects one of them because of a refuses to wear a mask," YCNHA said in a press release.

The park will continue to be cleaned and disinfected throughout the day and park members will encourage visitors to maintain six feet of distance between one another.

The Visitor Information Center is only allowing 10 people in the building at a time.
