Veterans Home Officially Breaks Ground in Yuma

Arizona veterans leaders and area elected officials gathered on a warm midday Saturday to officially break ground on a new veterans home in Yuma.

The Arizona Department of Veterans Services, or ADVS, is behind the 73,000 square foot location. It’s located south of the First Christian Church on East 32nd Street.

ADVS says the 80-bed facility will care for veterans and their spouses in a comfortable, home-like environment with private rooms and specialized nursing care and therapies.

John Scott is the deputy director for ADVS.

“It means the world to us and the (Yuma) community as well," Scott said. "Finally, this community’s going to have a place when loved ones need assistance with their care, we can now provide that and be able to do that for the veterans here in the community.”

The Arizona State Veterans Home-Yuma will be built on 10 acres of land donated by the City of Yuma.  The facility is expected to be completed by June of 2021.
