Somerton To Celebrate Corn at Corn Fest Saturday

Facebook.com/Somerton High School Committee
The 2019 Somerton Corn Fest will be held Saturday, Nov. 9.

From corn on the cob to elote en vaso, or corn in a cup, Somerton will celebrate everything corn this Saturday at its annual Corn Fest.

Now in its fifth year, the festival will benefit the planned Somerton High School. Yuma Union High School District leaders have said the school should open in 2022.

Angelica Roldan is the special events coordinator for the City of Somerton.

“I believe one of the things that people really like about this festival is that not only is it a fundraiser for the high school that we’re going to have in Somerton but it’s also a really good event," Roldan told KAWC. "(Attendees) have the opportunity to taste all the different food we have from different food vendors. All the dishes that they make are made out of corn.”

Performers are scheduled to include Mariachi Gadsden, Beg 2 Differ, the Big Boss Band, Mitosis, The International Mighty Mushroom and Banda La Primera. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Main Street in Somerton.

A do it yourself (DIY) mural is set to go up in front of City Hall Plaza in Somerton during the corn festival.
