Class 1 Misdemeanor For Businesses Operating Outside Of Restrictions

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is reminding businesses that failure to comply with the order that places restrictions on gyms, bars and restaurants can result in a class one misdemeanor.

Governor Doug Ducey's executive order 2020-09 on COVID-19 was signed into place March 19, and applies to all counties in Arizona with confirmed cases of the virus.

The order became effective in Yuma County on March 20 with the announcement of the county's first "presumptive positive",  according to Lt. Samuel Pavlak with YCSO. He said some businesses in Foothills were recently stopped after being unaware of the order.

"The restaurants that we have had contact with in reference to this order have been understanding and in fact did not know, or atleast claimed to not have known about the executive order and how it was affecting them here in Yuma County," said  Lt. Samuel Pavlak.

Restaurant owners under the Governor's executive order are permitted to provide their services through pick up, delivery, and drive-thru orders only.

If you see any of the businesses covered by the order violating its provisions, you are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
