2016-2017 AWC Budget Includes Small Property Tax Hike

Arizona Western College will spend a little less next school year, but the College Property tax rate will be a little more.  AWC Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services Carole Coleman says next year's budget totals just under 78 million dollars, about 760 thousand dollars less than this school year.

Coleman says a smaller Capital budget is the key reason for the difference.  This year major projects, including building renovations for the Engineering Technology program and construction of a new Public Safety Institute facility, were paid for.

To fund next school year's spending the new budget includes a 2% property tax hike.  Coleman says the College staff and District Board have worked hard to keep the increase as small as possible...........................

COLEMAN..."someone with a one hundred thousand dollar home currently would pay $216 and 50 cents.  With the board approving this budget with a two percent base on the increase they would pay $225 and 21 cents, so the hike totals eight dollars and 71 cents on that 100 thousand dollar home."

The new budget contains a three percent pay hike for faculty and a two percent increase for all other college employees.
