APS Crews To Restore Power In Puerto Rico
Arizona Public Service Company crews head to Puerto Rico to assist with power restoration efforts.
KAWC’s Stephanie Sanchez reports.
As part of a nationwide mutual assistance effort, APS is sending 50 employees to Puerto Rico on January 17th.
The employees will be working in the San Juan area for about 6 weeks.
Crew and support staff include employees from Yuma, Douglas, Goodyear, Cottonwood, Surprise, Buckeye, Paradise Valley and Phoenix.
APS spokeswoman Annie Degraw said the crews will join the nearly 5,500 restoration workers already on the island.
“APS is really excited and very proud to be able to help and of course we are very excited to get the power back on to the citizens of Puerto Rico,” Degraw said.
Providing mutual assistance is not new to APS.
In 2012, APS sent crews to New York after Superstorm Sandy and last year in Northern California after major storms caused flooding and toppled power lines
