San Luis High School welding students stopped by the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Phoenix to get a first hand look at their state-of-the-art welding program.

Other than touring the campus on Oct. 25, the students gathered information on post-secondary options at UTI upon graduation. They also got to participate in some hands-on activities throughout the day.

"It’s beneficial for the students to have the opportunity to be able to attend events like these, to explore what options they have after high school to further their education," said SLHS welding advisor Zachary Kelly.

UTI is a leading provider of training that prepares students for careers such as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle, marine CNC machining and welding technicians.

The trip was one of several industry opportunities that SLHS welding has taken part in over the past year, including creating a sign for the Gowan Company in the spring.
