The Yuma High School marching band is wrapping up their 2019 marching season with success, adventure and new uniforms.

The ensemble will top off the season by taking part in the 17th Annual Dorothy Young Electric Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, in Yuma.

Under the leadership of Michael Harig, the YHS band performed in the Veteran’s Day parade along 4th Avenue in Yuma and placed in two state qualifying competitions on October 12 and 26, respectively.

On November 2, the Criminal Band traveled to Mountain View High School in Mesa to compete in the 2019 Arizona Bands and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA) division 3 state semifinals where they finished 16th out of 20 schools.

It was the fourth time in the past five years that the YHS band has qualified for state.

“Fun, dedication and hard work led to our success this marching season,” said Harig.

In addition to their competitive success, the group also sported much-needed new uniforms. One parent described the upgraded uniforms as “cool, sharp, and professional looking.”
