La Cosecha Honors AWC Graduates and Their Families

It takes a village to raise a college graduate. Well, it takes at least a family.

That was the message Thursday evening as Arizona Western College hosted the La Cosecha banquet, which is Spanish for The Harvest. The annual ceremony celebrates graduates who are going on to a four-year university and are either a first-generation student, a financial aid recipient or a student with a disability.

Carlos Ramos was the keynote speaker. Ramos is a graduate of Yuma High School, AWC, Northern Arizona University in Yuma and Arizona State University. He is currently a constituent affairs representative for U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema.

“The overall message of La Cosecha is always to encourage graduates to pursue their education further and then come back to the community and give back,” Ramos said.

Ramos attended the banquet with his family, including his sister Jazmin, who graduates from AWC tonight.

Scholarships are also awarded each year at La Cosecha.

AWC’s graduation is tonight at Gila Ridge High School’s football stadium.
