AWC Unveils San Luis Technology Institute

Stephanie Sanchez

Arizona Western College’s San Luis Technology Institute was unveiled to the community during a ribbon cutting ceremony this weekend.

KAWC’s Stephanie Sanchez has the details.

The facility is an updated building on the campus of San Luis Middle School.

The institute will offer students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s in Applied Science degree in Informatics through the University of Arizona after earning an Associates in Science in one of four pathways at AWC - System Administration, Software Development/Information Management, Cyber Operations, and Digital Design.

The updated building is equipped with the latest technology.

AWC associate dean for South Yuma County, Susan Zambrano, says there are currently 18 students enrolled in the program.  But she expects enrollment to be closer to 100 students per semester now that the new facility is up and running…

"It’s a big deal for our community because I really enjoy the fact that were at San Luis middle school and we’re able to promote a college education from the beginning," Zambrano said. "They’re going to be encouraged by seeing us here."

The San Luis Technology Institute was funded, in part, by a federal grant.
