Yuma-area voters and elected officials gathered earlier this week to meet and greet top Republican candidates for statewide offices.
The Yuma County Republican Party hosted six candidates at a dinner on Labor Day Monday at the Yuma Elks Lodge.
Speakers included Congressman Andy Biggs and former state Sen. Sine Kerr, whose district included part of Yuma, who are running for Arizona governor and lieutenant governor
Also in attendance was Elijah Norton, who is running for Arizona treasurer. Norton told KAWC he wants to continue the work of the current Treasurer Kimberly Yee, who will be stepping down to run for Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction and was not in attendance at the Yuma County Republican Party dinner.
"Money isn't red or blue. It's green," Norton said. "I'm running to... continue to run the office the way it's been the last six years."
Norton is running against Democrat Nick Mansour.
Biggs and Kerr are running against the incumbent Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs and her pick for lieutnant governor former Mesa Mayor John Giles, who was a lifelong Republican before becoming an independent.
Also in attendance at the Yuma County Republican Party dinner on Monday were Arizona state Senate President Warren Petersen, who is running for state attorney general (watch or listen to our interview with Petersen on Yuma Edition on the KAWC YouTube channel or Facebook page or on the Yuma Edition page here), secretary of state candidate Alex Kolodin and mine inspector candidate Les Presmyk.
