Military troops were at the San Luis Port of Entry south of Yuma on Monday as migrants seeking asylum continued to wait in line.
Troops were seen unloading razor wire Monday. The port was temporarily closed just before 3 p.m. and reopened minutes later after a barricade was installed, a city spokeswoman confirmed.
In San Luis Rio Colorado, migrants seeking asylum have been moved back in line and separated from people crossing daily. They were previously located along a fence under a sun cover but have been moved back one street block and are now exposed to the elements.
On Monday, there were more single men waiting in line than in recent weeks, along with women and children.
The Tucson Field Office of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a release Saturday saying that they are monitoring the Central American migrant caravan as it nears the U.S.-Mexico border and recommends that businesses near the border be prepared in case of disruption to commercial operations at Arizona ports of entry.
This comes as some members of the caravan have arrived in Tijuana, Mexico south of San Diego where they were met by Mexican protestors.
