City of San Luis Declares a State of Emergency on COVID-19

City of San Luis officials announced late Friday that Mayor Gerardo Sanchez declared a local state of emergency on the current situation with COVID-19 coronavirus.

Public access to all parks and recreation facilities, including athletic fields, courts, and the San Luis Senior Center are to be closed for at least the next four weeks.

All city-scheduled activities for the next month will be canceled. The rental of city facilities for private parties or events will be canceled and fees will be refunded.

City manager Tadeo De La Hoya has been given the authority to implement any procedures and take any action deemed necessary to carry out the intent of the declaration.

San Luis city officials said they are working alongside federal and state agencies, the Yuma County Health Department, Yuma Regional Medical Center and other local agencies to ensure the safety and health of all residents.

There are no presumptive or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Yuma County as of Friday evening.

In a released statement, Mayor Sanchez said “It is important for us to be proactive and prevent unnecessary transmission of the disease. With the health, safety, and well-being of all our residents our number one priority the City of San Luis has canceled all public city events for the next four weeks."

City of San Luis offices will remain open and will continue to provide their services as usual.

Somerton Mayor Gerardo Anaya tells KAWC that city leaders are working with the Yuma County Health Department and will act accordingly.
